In the past, doctors did not consider Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) to be a real illness. They told their patients it was “all in their heads” or if they did actually manage to diagnose, it was the wrong disease. Today, professionals have no choice but to recognize CFS for the condition that it is.
Over a million people suffer from CFS, mostly women, although all ages and races are affected. Women are diagnosed about 4 times as much as men but doctors think men don’t seek treatment as often as women for this condition.
CFS is often times misunderstood by by the public and even many doctors. If they give the condition any credibility at all, it’s generally to diagnose it as another condition. CFS in teens and children is a rare occurance and these groups report that they have the most difficulty in gaining understanding from their doctors, peers and parents.
One reason for this is that at this time there is no known cause for CFS. Two theories that have abounded about cause is that it is either a physiological condition or psychological. This article will focus on the psychological cause theory.
The reason it’s so hard to diagnose CFS is that it’s symptoms are the same as those of other conditions. Depression, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, neurasthenia and drug or alcohol abuse are some of the psychological disorders with similar symptoms.
In keeping with the theory that CFS is a psychological condition, common treatments include: anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, cognitive hehavior therapy and moderate exercise, although too much exercise can actually make CFS worse.
People with CFS have reported that it’s very helpful for them to have a support group to talk to or an online chat group. Up to date treatment options are discussed, as well as having a sounding board with someone who’s gone through what you have.
Another beneficial tool for dealing with CFS is a combination of deep breathing and relaxation therapy.
Stress is a major trigger for CFS. If this is the case for you, I highly recommend my High Blood Pressure program. Regardless of whether or not you suffer from high blood pressure, my all natural program is designed to regulate blood pressure.
